Description
Use the Patscherkofelbahn to skip the long climb and start near treeline. From the mountain station, follow the Zirbenweg on an easy, rolling traverse across the hillside. The trail is mostly wide and smooth, with gentle ups and downs rather than sustained climbing.
The route weaves through Swiss stone pine forest and open slopes, with steady views over the Inn Valley toward the Nordkette and Karwendel. As you approach the Tulfeinalm side, the profile shifts into a longer descent.
To finish the loop, return on lower paths or use local buses to connect start and finish and avoid extra valley miles.
What to bring
- Trail shoes with reliable grip for damp or slick patches
- Light wind layer for the exposed traverse
- Water and a small snack
- Phone with an offline map or GPX file
- Payment card or some cash for a stop along the way
Tips
- Go early if you want a quieter run; the Zirbenweg can be busy
- Keep the descent controlled to save your legs
- Check the forecast before riding up; wind and visibility can change quickly
- Be ready to yield on narrower sections and pass hikers patiently
- If you plan to use buses, check connections before committing to the lower return
